STORY
Season 1
Kate Austen and Sawyer Ford met on September 22nd 2004, when Oceanic Flight
815 crashed on a deserted island, in the middle of nowhere. Their roles in the
group of survivors were totally different. Kate tried to help and make sure they
were rescued, while Sawyer only cared about himself. When Kate, along with
Sayid, Charlie, Shannon and Boone went on a hike to try to get a signal to a
transceiver, Sawyer, to everyone's surprise, joined them. When they were
attacked by a polar bear, Sawyer shot it dead. When everyone wondered where he'd
got the gun, he replied that there was a Marshal on the plane, along with a
prisoner. Kate looked worried when she asked him how he knew it was a Marshal on
the plane. She then took the gun from Sawyer, when he was busy arguing with
Sayid. Then, she said she wanted to take it apart, asking Sayid how to do it, though it was obvious she
knew how.
Season 2
After Sawyer left on the raft, Kate was clearly worried about him and when
Sun told her that they had found the bottle with the messages, Kate started to
look for Sawyer's letter. She told Sun that they didn't get to say goodbye.
A few days later, Mr Eko shows up, carrying an unconcious Sawyer on his back.
Kate and Jack takes him to the hatch, where Jack tries to give him some pills,
which he won't take. Kate gives it a try, she whispers softly to Sawyer that he
has to take them, which he does. Jack doesn't seem to enjoy this moment. Later,
when Jack and Sawyer are alone, a delirious Sawyer asks about Kate, and then
says he loves her. Jack, again, doesn't like what he's hearing.
When Kate was watching over Sawyer during Shannon's funeral, he all of a sudden
tries to strangle her, demanding to know why she killed him. Kate runs off,
believing her stepfather, Wayne, who she killed, has taken over Sawyer's body.
When she comes back, she admits that everytime she feels something for Sawyer,
she sees Wayne and it makes her sick. Then Sawyer wakes up, asking who the hell
Wayne is. After that, he recovered very quickly. A while later, he conned
everybody and stole the guns. Kate asks him why he had to do this. He answers:
"You run. I con. A tiger don't change her stripes".
After that, things got a little tense between them. But when Ana Lucia and Libby
died, Sawyer was the one who comforted Kate.
After Kate had been in the jungle with Jack, Sawyer was clearly jealous and
assumed that they had sex after Jacks comment about them being caught in a net.
When he confronted Kate about it, he realized that nothing had happened between
her and Jack. Kate, Sawyer, Jack, Hurley and Michael were caught by the others
out in the jungle and they were, except for Hurley, supposed to stay with the
Others from now on.
Season 3
Kate and Sawyer are being kept in two separate cages opposite each other and
are forced to work for the Others. During their days in captivity, while
figuring out ways to escape, the two really bonded. They made many attempts to
escape, one where Sawyer kissed Kate and then got into a fight with some of the
Others. The plan failed when Juliet held Kate at gunpoint. Sawyer was made to
believe they had put a peacemaker in him, so that his heart would explode if he
tried to escape again. The monitor alarm started when he saw Kate changing
clothes. Ben later told him that it wasn't a real peacemaker. He also revealed
that they weren't on the island anymore. They were in fact on a smaller island a
couple of miles off shore. Sawyer didn't tell Kate about this. One of the
Others, Pickett showed up at the cages and started beating Sawyer, and demanded
to know if Kate loves him. Kate confesses that she does, but later says to
Sawyer that she only said it so that Pickett would stop hitting him, when Sawyer
refuses to escape with her.
While working, Alex shows up and yells to Kate that they will kill her
boyfriend, just like they killed hers. Kate and Sawyer exchange worried looks
after hearing this. Kate is taken by Juliet to see Jack, and she asks him to do
the surgery on Ben that he was asked to do. Jack demands to know why and Kate
cries out that they are going to kill Sawyer if he doesn't do it. Jack asks if
she believes them, she answers that she has too. Jack responds that they're done
and Kate is taken back to the cages.
Pickett tells Sawyer, while locking him into his cage, that if he has something
to say to his girl, he better say it tonight. Later, Kate tells Sawyer that she
asked Jack to do the surgery. Sawyer gets angry and asks her why she would do
something so stupid. She tells him she did it to save his life. Then she opens
his cage again and demands that they leave now. Sawyer tells her that they
aren't on their island anymore. Kate demands to know when he was going to tell
her this, he replies never, because he wanted her to believe they had a chance.
Kate's respond to this is giving him a kiss. He asks why, she says she doesn't
know and they make love inside Sawyer's cage.
Lying together in the cage, Sawyer asks her if she really meant that she loved
him or if it just was to make him stop. Kate kisses him without a word, then she
lays down again. Sawyer says that he loves her too.
Later, Pickett shows up to kill Sawyer. Kate is desperately trying to save him,
she says she'll do whatever he wants, but Pickett says he wants her to watch.
Sawyer tells her to close her eyes and just when Pickett is about to shoot him,
he is interrupted by his walkie talkie. It's Tom from the surgery room, where
Jack demands to talk to Kate. He tells her to take Sawyer with her and run, but
Kate screams that she can't, Jack doesn't know they aren't on the same island
anymore.
Kate and Sawyer manages to escape anyway and they hide in the jungle, when Alex
shows up and helps them hide. She asks them to help her save her boyfriend Karl,
which they agree to do. After saving Karl, they head for the beach, where Alex
has a boat. There, Pickett shows up once again, but before he can kill Sawyer,
Juliet appears and shoots Pickett. Kate, Sawyer and Karl begin to return to the
main island. Kate wants to go back to save Jack, but Sawyer refuses. They argue
over and over about this and Sawyer tells her not to take it out on him because
she feels guilty. He accuses her of sleeping with him just because she thought
he was a dead man. Kate almost looks insulted when she hears this. They continue
to make their way back to their camp, and when Sawyer steps on a dart and Kate
pulls it out, they have an excuse to talk. Kate tells him that all he has to do
is say sorry and then they can start all over again. Sawyer replies that he
hasn't got anything to be sorry for and when they return to the camp, they keep
their distance, but they exchange looks.
Kate, Locke and Sayid set out to save Jack and Sawyer keeps himself busy back at
the beach, but it's obvious he misses her. When she returns, they share a long,
passionate hug.
A few days later, Sawyer walks in on Kate when she's changing and he can't take
his eyes off her body. Then he gets a grip and asks her if she told Jack what
happened between them. Kate says no, but that he already knows anyway, he saw
them on one of the cameras. Saywer then asks for a little "afternoon delight",
meaning sex. Kate pushes him out of her tent and he asks if he's got to give her
a mixtape and she replies "yeah why don't you do that".
Later, after seeing Jack and Juliet eating together, Kate marches to Sawyer's
tent and starts kissing him. They end up having sex again.
The day after, Sawyer finds out that Kate saw Jack and Juliet together and when
he gives her the mixtape he confronts her about it. She says it's not like that
and he replies that she doesn't have to use him, she just has to ask.
A few nights later, Kate is lying sleepless in Sawyer's tent, it's clear they
had sex again. When she gets ready to leave, he wakes up and she tells him she
can't sleep when she's not in her own tent. He asks her if she wants him to walk
her home, because he's got to pee anyway. She replies how romantic he is and
they share a quick kiss, then she leaves.
Locke shows up and tells Sawyer he has kidnapped Ben and that he wants Sawyer to
kill him. Sawyer agrees to talk to him, but not to kill him. Locke takes Sawyer
to the Black Rock and locks Sawyer in the brig. Sawyer then realizes it isn't
Ben that Locke kidnapped, it is the man that's responsible for the death of
Sawyer's parents, he also happens to be Lockes' father. Sawyer ultimately kills
him.
When the Losties are heading for the radio tower a few days later, Kate asks him
why he seems so different, what happened with Locke. He refuses to tell her. She
also says that she wants to go back. He also calls her Kate instead of
Freckles. She mentions the possibility that she might be pregnant and he tells
her that he hopes she's not.
Sawyer tells Jack that he's returning to the beach. Kate says she'll go with
him, but Sawyer says no, that he doesn't want to go with her.
Season 4
Rescue seems to be near for the survivors, but Locke spreads suspicion to
their rescuers in the group, and ask some of them to go with him instead of
Jack. Sawyer is one of them, while Kate chooses to stay with Jack. Kate asks
Sawyer what he's doing, he replies "Same thing I've always done, Kate.
Surviving". They both look sad and worried when they go their separate ways.
The day after, Sayid, Kate and Miles went to the barracks, where Kate met
Sawyer. It was the first time they had a real chance to talk after their
parting. Sawyer wanted her to stay with him on the island, but Kate asks him how
long he thinks they can play house. Sawyer replies that he wants them to find
out.
When Sayid arrives with Charlotte, Jack asks where Kate is and Sayid answers
that she stayed behind.
In the morning, Kate and Claire sits on their porch drinking coffee, Sawyer
comes by. He tells her he found some clothes about her size and that he wants
her to move in after he kicks Hugo out. She replies that she won't move in with
him, and then tells him it's not his business why she stayed and that she
doesn't trust him. When he asks if this is about the pregnancy thing, she sips
her coffee and then tells him to go home.
The same evening, she comes by his house and they talk in the kitchen. He offers
her some wine and sees right through her, as always, that it's obvious she wants
to use him for something. She confesses and asks him to help her bust Ben out
from Locke's basement.
He keeps Locke occupied while she breaks out Miles and when Sawyer and Locke
goes to see if Miles is still in the boathouse, Kate takes him to Lockes
basement.
When they leave, they are busted by Locke and Sawyer. Locke tells Kate that he
wants her gone by the next morning.
She visits Sawyer in his room and tells him what Locke said. Sawyer takes off
her shoes and tells her she can stay with him for the night, that he will keep
her safe. They kiss.
In the next morning, Kate wakes Sawyer up with kisses, but stops him when he
wants to go all the way. He asks her if she still thinks she's pregnant, but she
says she isn't. Sawyer gets extremely happy and Kate clearly isn't satisified
with his reaction, asking if would have been the worst thing in the world.
Sawyer says it would have been, and Kate says she's going back to the beach.
Sawyer gets angry and calls her out, saying that she was just looking for an
excuse to leave and now she's got one, but in a week, she'll find some reason to
get mad at Jack and come back to Sawyer. Kate then slaps him across his face, then she
leaves.
