POST-ISLAND

Kate is one of the Oceanic 6, rescued from the island. The others are Aaron, Sun, Jack, Hurley and Sayid. Kate is now raising Aaron as her own son, but it is unknown so far what happened to Claire.
She is put on trial in California for the murder of the father, and a long list of other crimes. She pleads not guilty, but it doesn't look good. Her mother, who is terminatelly ill, tells Kate that she wants to see her grandson, if she can, she won't testify. Kate refuses to let her mother anywhere near "her son". Kate is sentenced with ten years of probation and she can't leave California. While catching a taxi home, Jack approaches and they talk a little. After telling her that he still loves her, she asks him if he'd like to come by for a visit. He looks troubled and makes a lame excuse that he has to get back to the hospital. She sees through him, and says that she understands why he doesn't want to see the baby, but until he does, she can't see him.
Some time later, Kate is refusing to answer Jack's phonecalls, but agrees to meet him at the airport. There he tells her that they have to go back the island, which she doesn't want to.
